Get the quick launch bar back in Windows 7
I nearly wept when I first started using Windows 7, as I thought M$ had done away with the quick launch bar. Fortunately they didn’t, and articles like this one show you how to get it back quickly.
All that’s really necessary is to create a new toolbar in your taskbar that points to %appdata%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch and you’re good to go.

Discoveryband.org gets a facelift
The worship band I play with, Discovery, has gotten a facelift - Tumblr style! Check it out!
On that note, I’ve been playing with Soundcloud, and I absolutely love how they give you the ability to create set lists, as well as the embeddable code to go along with them. So I’m working on a page (hidden for now from the main site) that lets listeners enjoy all our music, “radio...

Fix hung "qfarm /app" command in Citrix
I was smashing my head against the desk the other day when trying to write a Citrix script that would log the results of the qfarm /app command to a text file. When I ran the command manually, the command window would dump some output and then hang.
After more Googling than I’ve probably ever done in my life, I found this post, which has a simple but elegant fix:
Add the /continue flag to...

Install Linux 10 Meerkat with one command
I absolutely love this article, which explains how to install Ubuntu 10 with a single command. The relevant commands to kickstart this process are:
sudo apt-get install tasksel sudo tasksel
Then choose the LAMP install and you’re just about off and running!

Stop and start Backup Exec services via the...
This article spells out the nitty-gritty, but essentially the commands to run are:
bemcmd -o503 (to stop all services)
bemcmd -o502 (to start all services)
A return value of 1 is what you want to see. Otherwise there’s a problem.
Also, in case the font looks a little funny, that’s a “small letter o” before the 503/502.

How to quickly find open ports in Windows
There are so many little shortcuts, tips, tricks that I use all the time - but never remember! So I’m going to start documenting them here. Here’s a command you can run in Windows to list open ports and export the results to a text file:
netstat -an |find /i "listening" > c:\name-of-file-to-export-to.txt

I stopped watching SNL years ago, but Jay Pharoah’s Denzel Washington impersonation alone makes me want to give it another chance.

Wow, sometimes you snooze…you WIN!
– Aimee, this past weekend, after taking me up on an offer to watch our two kids solo so she could get some sleep (I was actually trying to reverse-psychology her into watching the kids, but…siiiiigh)
